Artistic Touch vs. Application

As I've continued to try to absorb as much information as possible in the 3D world, there is a distinct barrier that stands in front of many people wanting to learn. While this is an understandable issue, many video tutorials discuss the application used to create various 3D scenarios, but usually leave out the artistic view needed when creating, well, anything.

This particular divide is exactly why I created this site. Ever since I started working with 3D art, this was always something that was missing from my training. When asking people in the community where I could learn "X", they would promptly advise me to visit I site that was all about technical application with the software (Blender). Of course I do not blame them, as the question I asked was exactly like the one many others have asked, when trying to learn how to apply their art to 3D.

Since then I've learned that it was my question that was at fault, and that a lot of artistic theory and practice was a much broader subject, and covered in other areas. Little did I know at the time, I needed to think outside of the box. For lighting, I needed to look for resources covering "lighting" which dealt with photography, and of course photography to understand the concepts behind the lighting.

Basically, the way I'm seeing the whole CGI field, is a technical field, where artists who already know the methods of portraying their creations come to learn how to do apply it in a CG sense. For those of us that may have worked in art before, but photography, lighting, texturing, and concepts never applied, now have to back-pedal to figure it out.

While this may seem very grim, I'm going to write many articles covering all of these aspects, giving various resources like websites, books, and tutorials to remedy this issue. There is no reason anyone else should have to endure the non-stop Google madness I have obtained finding this wealth of assets.
